MIAMI (CBSMiami) The city of Miami, the war in Ukraine may seem far away South Floridians continue offer support to those leaving.

Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise funds and coordinate an effort for humanitarian aid.

jcm.md/en/about-us/ Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated, “Just last night 1,100 arrived.”

Emmanuil Grinshpun She claimed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to leave their war-stricken country. Many of these refugees cross into Moldova, which borders Ukraine.

Jaquays declared, “From Moldova, the Jewish community supports them to get across border lines and provides food, shelter, clothes, and other needs.”

The majority of humanitarian efforts are being conducted from Sunny Isles, South Florida.

Emmanuil Grinshpun “My job is to coordinate the maximum amount of resources from American society to assist with the people in Moldova. Emmanuil Grishhpun, a humanitarian worker, said that there was a whole team of people on the ground working to organize humanitarian efforts in Moldova.

It is also reported that Moldova is one of the most deprived countries within Europe. This makes it more difficult. But, people who are participating in this effort claim that they will not stop helping.

Grinshpun: “When our brothers, sisters and friends from Ukraine were coming, we didn’t have any reason to think about it. Instead we just started doing it.”

    Jaquays echo the sentiments.

“Who were there during the Holocaust and also when the Nazis took over? How many people turned their backs and said, “It’s not me. It’sn’t Jewish. It’s not my family. Emmanuil Grinshpun I’m not from Europe.” We must not duplicate the mistakes of history. There’s a saying that goes: “If it’s not now, then who?” If you’re not me, then who?

They’re holding a number of local events to help increase awareness and aid the Ukraine refugees. wsvn.com/news/us-world/2-south-floridians-team-up-to-help-ukrainian-women-and-children-after-fleeing-country/ The next one will take place in Sunny Isles on March 24. Click Here for details
