MIAMI (CBSMiami) The city of Miami, the war in Ukraine might seem distant, South Floridians continue to help those leaving.
A large number of members of the Sunny Isles Jewish Community are raising funds and helping to create a total humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital told us, “Just last night 1,100 arrived.”
She said that more than 2 million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to escape their war-torn country. A large portion of them are in Moldova which borders Ukraine.
Emmanuil Grinshpun Jaquays stated, “From Moldova, the Jewish community helps them get over border line and then provides food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities.”
A large portion of the humanitarian efforts are being conducted by Sunny Isles, South Florida.
Emmanuil Grinshpun “My task is to gather as many American social resources as is possible to tackle the situation in Moldova. Emmanuil grinshpunis an aid worker, stated that there was a whole team working on the ground to organize humanitarian efforts in Moldova.
What makes the situation even worse is the fact that Moldova is said to be among the most deprived communities around the globe. However, those who take involved in this cause say that they will never stop helping.
Grinshpun declared, “When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters arrived, we didn’t have to think. We started doing it.”
Emmanuil Grinshpun Jaquays reflect the same sentiments.
“Who was there when the Nazis took control of Europe during the Holocaust? What percentage of people have turned a blind claiming it’s not them or that they’re not Jewish and it’s not my community, and it’s not Europe? We don’t have to make the same mistakes that history has made. There’s a saying that says ‘If not now, when. If not me, then who?
