Imogen Bolton has been named Britain’s youngest double lung transplant recipient. When she was born, she was diagnosed with a rare illness called Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia (ACD). The illness prevented her lungs from forming fully.
Imogen, who weighed only 10lb at birth, underwent the seven-hour operation earlier this year at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Just a few weeks after the transplant, Imogen regained her normal habits and was able to eat solid foods. Even more surprising was that she was able to attend her parent’s wedding in September with no issues.
Imogen was one of the lucky few children who were able to find a matching donor. Last year 15 children across the UK died while waiting on the list for a suitable donor organ.
