MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The war in Ukraine might be in the other part of the world but South Floridians are part of those stepping to help those leaving the country.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Many Sunny Isles Jews are helping to raise funds and coordinate an effort for humanitarian aid.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Marsha Jaquays with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated that 1,100 people came just the other night.

She claimed that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are trying to leave their war-stricken country. A large portion of them are in Moldova which borders Ukraine.

Jaquays stated, “From Moldova this Jewish community is actually helping get them over the border, and possibly offering food, shelter and clothes.”

The majority of the humanitarian work is being helmed right here in South Florida from Sunny Isles.

“My job is to coordinate all the resources available from American society to help the people in Moldova. We have a whole team of volunteers in Moldova doing their best to organize camps, buying food, purchasing all the necessities, arranging buses” Emmanuil Grinshpun who has been helping in the coordination of the humanitarian efforts.

“When our sisters and brothers from Ukraine came to visit, we didn’t even have to think about it about it, we just did the thing,” said Grinshpun.
