    CHISINAU – World Jewish Congress CEO Robert Singer gathered with senior ministers and other leaders from the Jewish community in Moldova to hold talks about issues like the preservation of Holocaust memory and education as and the security of Israel’s Jewish community. Also, Singer stressed the importance of fighting antisemitism across all levels. Together with Haim Ben Yaakov, Director General of EuroAsian Jewish Congress and President Mikhail Mirilashvili of EuroAsian Jewish Congress, the WJC delegation comprised Haim Ben Yaakov, President Alexander Bilinkis of Moldovan Jewish Community.

    Singer declared that the World Jewish Congress thanked the Moldovan government for their warm reception and pledged their support to keeping alive the Holocaust’s memory. “Our group in Moldova although small, is committed and solid. We encourage Moldova to put a high priority on the fight against antisemitism. We stand ready to aid when needed.     Singer and the WJC delegation met Wednesday with Moldova’s Minister for Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici. They discussed the potential for restitution and economic growth in Moldova in relation to Jewish property, cemeteries that are in dire need of reconstruction, kosher slaughter, and potential tourist ventures to benefit the local Jewish centre.     Singer as well as Singer and the WJC delegation also met Wednesday with Monica Babuc, Moldovan Education Minister, to discuss teaching Holocaust education and memory preservation. The discussions included the establishment of an Museum of Jewish History, the preservation of Holocaust memorials, and the importance of maintaining properly Jewish cemetery.     Singer, Mirilashvili & Bilinkis also met with Vlad Plahotniuc of the Democratic Party of Moldova to discuss the relationship with the Jewish community in Moldova and bilateral relations between Israel and Moldova.

    Singer also had a meeting with rabbis of Jewish communities in Moldova to discuss the most pressing concerns regarding religious practices within Moldova. Singer also discussed ways to enhance Jewish daily activities in all aspects.
