Man With Terminal Lung Disease Finishes Marathon

Evans Wilson completed the Seattle Marathon in 10 hours and 55 minutes. Wilson walked the entire 26.2 mile course while towing his oxygen tank behind him.

The former competitive runner said he expected to finish the race in about 14 hours, a long haul away from the time he used to be able to run a mile in under 5 minutes.

Wilson suffers from pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. In simple terms, his lungs are severely scarred and cannot process oxygen well. The disease is progressive and irreversible.

His doctors were not pleased with his participation but cleared him for the race nonetheless.

Wilson participated in the race to raise funds for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. His wife walked next to him also carrying an oxygen tank.
